Meeting Schedule and Attendance
DSpace Developer meetings are a time when Committers and interested Developers can discuss new software features, upcoming releases of DSpace software, and generally plan out the roadmap of DSpace. All meetings are public. We welcome anyone and everyone to attend, speak their opinions or just listen in on the discussions. Please note that we archive all discussions (see Meeting Archives), as a service for those who are unable to attend.
DSpace Developer meetings take place on the following schedule:
- Every Wednesday at 20:00 UTC in #duraspace IRC channel
- All meetings are held for 1 hour (although, admittedly, discussion sometimes extends beyond that)
See the world clock to determine the meeting time where you live. If you are unsure how to connect to IRC, see our list of IRC Resources & Clients
This meeting schedule is also available via the DuraSpace Public Events Calendar (iCal, RSS Feed).
Meeting topics often include:
- Recent updates on upcoming DSpace releases, bug fixes or features
- Reviewing of recent reported issues/bugs/feature requests (see JIRA Cleanup Sessions for more info)
- Occasionally we vote or make decisions on upcoming DSpace technology plans/roadmap (see Developer Voting Procedures for more info)
If you are unable to attend a meeting, please feel free to add your own notes/comments to the meeting's wiki page.
NOTE: Any developer is also welcome to ask questions or brainstorm ideas with Tim Donohue during the DSpace Office Hours held before the weekly Developers meeting in the same IRC channel.
Developers Meeting on Weds, January 9, 2013
Agenda
Regular Items
JIRA Reviews – starting with issue DS-1082- Quick Notice: João has started some work on a DAO Implementation for DSpace (See DS-1438 and Pull #161)
- I'd encourage all of us to take some time to review the work thus far & add comments/feedback. I'd like to discuss this in a future meeting (either Jan 16 or 23)
Discussion Topics
- New JIRA workflow now in place : JIRA Workflow Improvements
- Thoughts on how we tackle the backlog of "Received" issues that need re-categorization? Should we dig in during meetings, or perhaps schedule a "JIRA Backlog Bash" (devote a meeting towards just doing quick categorization into "more info needed", "volunteer needed", "accepted" or "closed").
- Was noted (by helix84) that in some cases we have tickets that "Need discussion" before they can be categorized properly. They may be either vague ideas or something that really needs approval. How should we categorize these? Some options:
- Leave as "Received" until we have time to discuss them.
- Or, move to "More Info needed" and perhaps tag/label them as "discussion needed". Then we either make time to revisit them ourselves or, if a less technical ticket, we can ask DCAT to give some feedback.
- Any 3.0 or 3.1 updates we need to touch on?
- Other topics?
Additional Ongoing Topics
- Brainstorming Features/Changes for future. Can we work towards development teams around any of these projects?
- Larger DSpace projects which seem to have a lot of recent support:
- Moving towards a Common "Business Logic" / Business Services API. (I.e. avoiding duplication of business logic in all UIs)
- Metadata For All (i.e. metadata on all objects), SubTopic: Getting us up-to-date how we use Dublin Core / DCMI. (Support from DCAT)
- AuthN & AuthZ issues, including: DS-994, DS-1006, DS-1007, DS-1088, and developer meeting on May 2, 2012
- Other DSpace projects receiving mention recently
- Migrate Search and Browse to DSpace Discovery
- "Change which UIs come out-of-the-box" (and which are optionally installed later)
- Move configurations to DB or similar (so they can be managed/edited from Admin UI)
- Context Guided Ingest (or Item Type based submissions)
- Other Development Proposals
- Larger DSpace projects which seem to have a lot of recent support:
