Discussion: DSpace 7 Promotion

Leaders will break into 4-5 randomly assigned groups to further discuss promotion of DSpace 7. Each group will be tasked with brainstorming ideas; identifying resources and challenges for activities; and identifying how they can contribute.

We will take 25 minutes for breakout discussions and then return for 15 minutes to report out and discuss with the whole group.

Guide for breakout discussions:

  • If needed, conduct a brief round of introductions. Record group members in the notes document.
  • Identify reporter to report highlights of the discussion out to the larger group.
  • Each group will discuss one of the following topics/questions and report back to the full group:
      • How
    • to incentivize or highlight moving to DSpace 7/ Intentionally give DSpace 7 use/upgrades a lot of visibility— but how? Ideas: Repository of the month/week, why did we make the move? What feature did you need the most to encourage your org to upgrade? First in my country to upgrade: swag item? featured on twitter, feature website, feature on a google map?
    • Create shared resources for promotion —build /generate templates so it is easier for anyone to use and market DSpace 7. Ideas: provide a video template for those to record videos for new features. Template documentation and presentations geared towards building global expertise for both the repository manager and the technical developers. Collect case studies and project management timelines on how to upgrade/move to DSpace 7.

    • Empower power users; develop ambassadors of the software. Ideas: Provide train the trainer training (long term goal), create experts around the globe on how to install and support DSpace 7. How can we empower, what else can we do to encourage community growth with DSpace 7?

    • What can we do now and what can we build up towards? Immediate vs. Long-term needs. Immediate needs- help getting the word out, help identifying those implementing DSpace 7, help with creating and translating DSpace 7 features, case studies both video and on the website, general out of the box marketing ideas.
      • can we promote DSpace globally?Ideas here could be: multilingual promotion, partnerships, User Groups
      • What can we offer as experts in the community to amplify why DSpace IS the repository software to adopt? Ideas here could be: Content for Digest, Case studies, etc?
      • How can we encourage DSpace 7.0 early adoption? Ideas here could be: case studies, highlighting features as reasons to adopt NOW
