Agenda and goals

  • discuss charter

  • identify ideas/topics to pursue

  • determine workflow for preparing recommendations

  • schedule next meeting

Notes

Created a Google Drive folder to hold task force documents.

Discussion covered:

- place for finding collaborators, what exists, and where interests lie

- question of maintenance, who will test for new releases or update
contributed app’s code?

- based on past involvement in a number of open sourced projects,
success/popularity is rare, more likely to be a few people involved,
often the creator doesn’t want to be the gatekeeper for good
- what do we do when the maintainer is no longer interested in the
app/tool created?
- would a Github organization that forks community repos work?  Not
safe to assume everything is on Github.
- discussed current catalog of Apps & Tools.  Need to better organize
and keep up to date.  Should we contact each of the maintainers?

- we need broad categories of problems/solutions for supporting tools

e.g: visualization, search, client side tools,

leave room for emerging areas that haven’t been explored much

Action items

  • Ted will review the current list of apps & tools and determine who needs to be contacted about the status of projects
  • Will start a document for drafting recommendations
