DCAT is dedicating our monthly calls for the next year to support all (IR managers, developers, etc.) who are implementing DSpace 7.x
Zoom meeting:
We will be using the DSpace Zoom Meeting Room for our meeting.
...
Zoom information: DSpace Meeting Room
Agenda:
- Announcements
- DSpace fundraising update (Kristi Park)
- SCOSS
- Development Fund
- Membership
- New DSpace Program Coordinator, Natalie Baur
- A second opportunity for DCAT to meet Natalie
- Natalie's position is funded thanks to the generous fundraising pledges via SCOSS.
- Input needed: 6.x "log-based statistics" and the 7.x releases (Tim Donohue)
- The developers are seeking input on a task in Tier 3: Medium Priority. It is currently on hold so that the Dev Team can seek feedback:
- Task: Administrative (potentially log-based) statistical reports, similar to 6.x (UI ticket #786, REST ticket #2852) (Needs feedback from DCAT & others) (Statistics)
- Task: Administrative (potentially log-based) statistical reports, similar to 6.x (UI ticket #786, REST ticket #2852) (Needs feedback from DCAT & others) (Statistics)
- The proposal from the Dev Team is that we may want to drop 6.x "log-based statistics" and replace it with enhancements to "Usage Statistics" and "Quality Control Reports".
It is unclear what is most important in these older log-based reports. In other words, the Dev Team doesn't want to lose important reporting features... but, at the same time, they feel that trying to rebuild the "log-based" statistics into DSpace 7 is a massive project. If we can instead enhance our usage statistics with more detailed reports, that may actually be a smaller project (or at least similar sized and easier to maintain for the future).
- Background (see https://github.com/DSpace/DSpace/issues/2852#issuecomment-1286064086 and https://github.com/DSpace/dspace-angular/issues/786):
- Old, legacy statistics which analyzed DSpace log files using commandline scripts: https://wiki.duraspace.org/display/DSDOC6x/Command+Line+Operations#CommandLineOperations-Legacystatistics
The Dev Team currently feels these log-based statistical reports should potentially be retired in favor of one (or both) of the following:
- Usage Statistics (Solr Statistics) - Which already exist in DSpace 7, but could be enhanced with additional reports (as required to provide features of those older log-based reports)
- REST Based Quality Control Reports - Which don't yet exist in DSpace 7, but discussion/work has begun in
November in the Year of DSpace 7 (July 2022 - July 2023)
- DCAT is dedicating our monthly calls for the next year to support all (IR managers, developers, etc.) who are implementing DSpace 7
- Share your plans, progress, concerns, obstacles, and successes
- We'd like to develop documentation (FAQ, guides, etc.) to help the community with their installations
- All are welcome to join
- The developers are seeking input on a task in Tier 3: Medium Priority. It is currently on hold so that the Dev Team can seek feedback:
- DCAT Task Force on User-facing Documentation Learning DSpace
- New Business
