Updates

  • Brown (Steven) – meeting with departments (Engineering, Philosophy, Math) to understand their needs with VIVO, and doing a more complete analysis of what the content of a CV is, in a more formal way.  The same issues continue to come up, such as an abstract work that relates a number of document instances, as well distinctions between "continuant" and "occurrent" entries (e.g., individual offerings of a course in a semester vs. a course as it exists across time).
    • Looking at the Music ontology, done by the same group in Britain (Queen Mary University department of digital music) as did the Event – music in composition and performance
  • Johns Hopkins (Jing) – back from vacation and looking at the provenance ontology (prov-o)
  • Scripps (Michaeleen) – Stella has found PMIDs for 98% of 2008-2013 publications and PMCIDs for 74%; this is preliminary work for linking publications to grants, since NIH uses the PMID to do that linkage; she's also working on identifying primary position and primary department
    • will have a few issues to post to the list
    • very useful for compliance
  • Weill Cornell (Paul) – becoming more important to list "voluntary" faculty in VIVO – physicians with courtesy appointments and hospital privileges but not always with a unique institutional identifier; need a way to develop a unique identifier from the information that is publicly available
    • if use an arbitrary URI, lose the ability to type in someone's institutional identifier to get their VIVO page
    • trying to cross-reference publications between VIVO and Scopus
    • will be moving to using different graphs for ingest
  • Virginia Tech (Gail) – at very preliminary stages with VIVO, with buy-in from the central IT organization and the Provost Office; the dean of the library has been very successful in building relationships with other units on campus.  Are studying the landscape and looking to identify a department to focus on this fall.  Are also considering Symplectic Elements.
    • Managed the institutional repository (DSpace) but also developing a Fedora repostory through
    • Has a background working on cataloging standards for electronic theses and dissertations
