Meeting Schedule and Attendance

DSpace Developer meetings are a time when Committers and interested Developers can discuss new software features, upcoming releases of DSpace software, and generally plan out the roadmap of DSpace. All meetings are public. We welcome anyone and everyone to attend, speak their opinions or just listen in on the discussions. Please note that we archive all discussions (see Meeting Archives), as a service for those who are unable to attend.

DSpace Developer meetings take place on the following schedule:

  • Every Wednesday at 20:00 UTC in #duraspace IRC channel
  • All meetings are held for 1 hour (although, admittedly, discussion sometimes extends beyond that)

See the world clock to determine the meeting time where you live. If you are unsure how to connect to IRC, see our list of IRC Resources & Clients

This meeting schedule is also available via the DuraSpace Public Events Calendar (iCal, RSS Feed).

Meeting topics often include:

  • Recent updates on upcoming DSpace releases, bug fixes or features
  • Reviewing of recent reported issues/bugs/feature requests (see JIRA Cleanup Sessions for more info)
  • Occasionally we vote or make decisions on upcoming DSpace technology plans/roadmap (see Developer Voting Procedures for more info)

If you are unable to attend a meeting, please feel free to add your own notes/comments to the meeting's wiki page.

NOTE: Any developer is also welcome to ask questions or brainstorm ideas with Tim Donohue during the DSpace Office Hours held before the weekly Developers meeting in the same IRC channel.

Developers Meeting on Weds, April 9, 2014

Agenda

Regular Items

  • "JIRA Backlog Hour" : Every Weds at 19:00UTC in #dspace IRC we will be working together to tackle our JIRA Backlog of "Received" tickets. This regular meeting will continue until we've been able to catch up on our backlog.

Discussion Topics

  1. Quick notes:
    1. Tim will be unable to attend the meeting on April 16 (next week). Anyone want to lead the weekly meeting?
    2. 5.0 Release Team -  Reminder:If you are interested, please get in touch!
  2. Status check on 4.2 and 3.3
    1. 3.3 tentative for April 25
    2. 4.2 - will do a review of open tickets marked for "4.2".  Hopefully release in early-to-mid May?
  3. Next "Let's Talk about Features" meeting?  Should we have it next week, April 16 or April 23?
  4. Meeting times: shall we have more than one weekly meeting time, to "share the pain" of an inconvenient meeting time? Currently committers checking in from Europe and Asia have the most inconvenient times. Here is tool for picking times where everyone will be awake. Tim and Hardy have suggested the possibility of having an alternating meeting time, one at 20UTC (same as now, we can call it the "late meeting"), one at 15 or 14UTC (we can call it the "early meeting"). This will make calendar management slightly more complex for everyone, but will hopefully make meeting attendance less of a chore for some of us.
  5. Other topics to bring up for discussion?

Additional Ongoing Topics

  1. Brainstorming Features/Changes for future. Can we work towards development teams around any of these projects?
    • Larger DSpace projects which seem to have a lot of recent support:
      • Moving towards a Common "Business Logic" / Business Services API. (I.e. avoiding duplication of business logic in all UIs)
      • Metadata For All (i.e. metadata on all objects), SubTopic: Getting us up-to-date how we use Dublin Core / DCMI. (Support from DCAT)
      • AuthN & AuthZ issues, including: DS-1566 and developer meeting on May 2, 2012
    • Other DSpace projects receiving mention recently
