Notes

1    Welcome

2    Leadership

  • Susanna Mornati is retiring (congrats!); Andrea Bollini will step in on behalf of 4Science.

3    Elections

  • Call for nominations for Susanna's seat on steering forthcoming.

4    DSpace-CRIS

  • Andrea Bollini presenting.
  • See videos on YouTube: "DSpace-CRIS Use cases": https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLyi2I60JuG8mg1epHENLoTpztYQz062Ng
  • Demo of DSpace-CRIS 8: is close to normal DSpace; however, is configurable without changing source code; item records look a different from DSpace (also configurable); some integrations installed out of the box: stats, altmetrics, etc.; affiliation information can be linked to authors; authors displaced in person entity; search displays also configurable; entity displays are configurable; can configure privacy/authority for linked-data related to person entities, funding, etc.; also additional tools in the submission form: e.g., metadata extraction from files; usage stats are SOLR based and entity-, repo- levels, and filterable on date ranges: Repo managers can do many configurations from the user interface; Security is more granular than DSpace (such as who may be able to make what edits to an item/entity); short-name URLs possible; citation styles embedded.
  • Questions:
    • Ease of configuration? Repo managers can configure, not too complicated.
    • Where do metrics come from: Metrics from Scopus require subscription and access to Scopus API, other providers possible
    • Are all these features open source? Yes, all showed functionalities are open source and freely available on github
    • Is the demo site available for user testing? Open for discussion, but not yet.

6    Lyrasis

  • Bridget Almas - 2nd quarter financial report: about $27K available in development fund; overall revenue is a little higher than budget; expenses a little over budget; some variances due to changes in roles, SCOSS, etc. In general doing well.
  • Question: given unknowns from US institutions, will DSpace plan accordingly? (Good point).
  • Bridget - Org Home Report: focused on today and how to move forward; what to do to improve. Recommendations - urgent category: articulate values (underway, see: https://lyrasis.org/organizational-home/), review cost model as transparent nonprofit (work has started), develop service level agreements, address concerns about conflict of interests, restart regular meetings of program chairs. Open to feedback.

7    Development

  • Tim: 8.1, 7.6.3 went out the door last week. Thanks everyone. Performance improvements and accessibility improvements. Welcome feedback.
  • Tim: 9.0 expected in late May (5/26). Feature request deadlines this week. Expected to be smaller on the list of new features. 9.0 will have a lot of dependencies updates.
  • Questions: Testathon still on schedule for April 7-18? Yes.
  • Holger on Accessibility: VPAT in progress; in process of resolving three to four items; hopeful to release in next month.
  • Maureen: DSpace demo and sandbox servers: DSpaceDirect will be listing the cost on their DSpace Registered Service Provider template this budget year.

8    Future Planning

  • Re DSpace/DSpace CRIS merger status:
    • Holger - membership of Strategy and the Technology committees finalized; first meeting to be 2/26 for Strategy Group, members will receive homework; wiki pages for notes etc available for both groups.
    • Tim - Technology group established, met last week. First meeting to familiarize members with both projects and history of merger idea. Meeting every two weeks.
    • Meeting notes publicly available, see links in agenda above.

9    Break

10    Governance

  • i missed this, sorry, if possible, would someone please fill in (J.O.)

11    DCAT

  • Testathon working group will be forming.
  • Participation in monthly meetings has been strong. User groups very popular. (Partly bc North American group meets on every other year.)
  • Hard to find chairs for working groups.
  • UX Working Group is wrapping up its work. With report forthcoming.
  • Engagement good, but community of busy.

12    Membership Updates

  • Holger: one new member, Silver level (FAO UN); lost a member; some leads ... new member expected next month.
  • Holger: Exploring how to convert SCOSS contributors into members. Can those that pledged one-time contributions become regular members?
  • Kristi Park: many SCOSS contributors are consortia ... how to have a consortia-based membership program?

13    Membership and Fundraising

  • One-to-one outreach: Anyone interested? Reach out to DSpace institutions and ask them about membership.
    • Response:
      • Kristi, Jere: would participate
  • Member summit idea: It has been done in the past (in the DuraSpace days ... as a DuraSpace project summit). Would it be beneficial to have a virtual summit? When to do it? Response:
    • Kristi: likes the idea, would be beneficial to members.
    • Maureen: Could have two per year.
    • Jyrki: Please keep time differences in mind. (Seconded by Pascal.)
    • Maureen: Could have meetings a & b to accommodate time differences.

14    Communications/Outreach

  • Holger: Video series that explains DSpace community and how to get involved. 1st video ready for feedback will be sent via email.
  • Maureen: Excellent work. Not public yet. Please offer feedback by end of the day on 2/26.

15    Community

  • Events?

16    Travel/Global Outreach

  • Maureen read notes (had trouble hearing this, J.O.)
  • Holger: going to German user group meeting in March.
  • Pascal: Thanks. Program will be published on Monday.

17    OR2025

  • Two workshops accepted.
    • Developer meetup workshop (Tim and Holger)
  • OR Acceptances to be sent this week.

18    Lyrasis

  • Lautaro Matas: LA Referencia update. Looking for ways to measure impact, working on translating documentation and creating new documentation. Offering training. Focused on Latin America but expects results to benefit others globally. Will share meeting information on request.

19    Meetings

  •  Future meeting topics?
  • AI?
  • Performance Issues?
  • Please send ideas to Maureen or Augustina.

20    Other business

  • Holger will send a new Zoom link out.
  • Jyrki: call to sign declaration regarding US science funding see: link above.
  • Maureen: Can we have a meetup at OR? Interest expressed.
