- Introduction Raphaelle Lapotre (EHESS)
- EHESS has a VIVO
- a complex institution, made it necessary to develop their own ontology
- researchers have multiple affiliations
- a funder (CNRS) has their own closed research information system with their own IDs
- need to federate metadata
- Goal: national decentralized research information system, based on existing standards like VIVO ontology and CERIF
- decentralization for example by ActivityPub or SOLID pods.
- Question: Is it possible to use the VIVO ontology outside of VIVO?
- generally yes, has to be amended in parts
- Related projects are maybe https://brcris.ibict.br/ or forskningsportal.dk/

- This approach of using Competency Questions for VIVO search filters and facets was based on research done by Dr. Jose Francisco Salm Jr at the Foundation of Science and Technology in Portugal and the Brazilian Funding Agency CNPq. His research mixed ontology engineering techniques with filter and facet for a VIVO application instance. Dr. Salm research also addressed a new designed for user interaction that explores competency questions and thus enables users with low level experience to extract information based on their understanding about the competency question.
