Notes:

DSpace Leadership Group meeting Feb. 23, 2022

Participants and agenda: https://wiki.lyrasis.org/display/DSPACE/2022-02-23+DSpace+Leadership+Group+Meeting

Introductions: Maureen introduced herself as the new Leadership Group chairperson.

New members: Tiago Ferreira – Community at large representative; Lautaro Matas – Community at large representative;

Susan Parham – New member

DSpace website overhaul: Jenn introduced the new DSpace website, built and maintained by LYRASIS on   Wordpress.

Elections and governance update: The vice-chair position is currently vacant, and we are seeking candidates for a one year term. Any Leadership Group member can apply.

DSpace Community Advisory Team Update: DCAT is seeking a new leader and we are looking for interested candidates. DCAT is attempting to locate early adopters of DSpace 7 to join a DCAT meeting to discuss their experience.

Open Repositories: OR decided to have an in-person conference in Denver on June 6-9. Call for proposals is here: https://or2022.openrepositories.org/2022/01/19/call-for-proposals-and-conference-dates/. Fellowships are also available, with an emphasis on the Americas.

DSpace development update:  DSpace 7.2 has been released on Feb. 7. Version 7.3 will present a new four-month increment for releases, which will move to a three releases per year cycle. Almost all of tier 1 features and most of tier 2 will be covered by the time 7.3 is released.

DSpace/Vivo integration: Michele reported about the work being done to develop a VIVO/DSpace integration, helping the two systems interact more smoothly: https://wiki.lyrasis.org/display/VIVO/Call+for+Interest%3A+Integrating+DSpace+with+VIVO

Financial quarterly report has been shared with the Group: The report was shared via the mailing list.

SCOSS update: More institutions and consortia have pledged contributions, with SCOSS taking a cut. The funding campaign is ongoing. LYRASIS is looking to organize an onboarding session with the new pledging institutions.

DSpace development funding campaign: Pascal introduced the framework of the funding campaign for future DSpace features (including but not focusing on ORCID integration). This is not a “pay per feature” program but securing addition to existing resources to expedite releases and development of DSpace in general.  Tim suggested soliciting resources for a specific release instead of a specific feature. Pascal proposed a vote regarding Leadership Group support of a new funding campaign, so that institutions can start contributing. Some institutions in Germany have expressed interest in participating. Interest in other countries to be gauged.

Laurie shared development costs for DSpace 7.x:

  • 7.0 development total was $ 317,000 US
  • 7.1 budget up to $ 63,000; spent $ 31k (late start)
  • 7.2 budget up to $ 63,000; spent $ 18k to date; not all billed
  • 7.3 budget up to $ 84k (4 month vs 3 window)

A vote was taken (service providers / developers were not allowed to participate in the vote due to conflict of interest):  18 for, 0 against, 0 abstained.

Other business: The German DSpace user group conference "DSpace Praxistreffen" will take place on March 31st and April 1st.
