- 2008 Fedora 3 was released: relatively stable, stored objects and their relationships on disk (key selling point)
- 2014 Fedora 4 was released: transition from XML to describe object to RDF; entirely new infrastructure (Modeshape); created some challenges to migrate from Fedora 3 to Fedora 4
- 2021 Fedora 6 was released: introduction of OCFL to store all repository data on disk once again
