- Request from Sheila Rabun:
- If your organization has been using DSpace version 5 or 6 and you have either used the ORCID lookup tool or CSV import functionality to get ORCID iDs into your instance of DSpace, please email orcidus@lyrasis.org and/or leave a comment on this Github ticket: https://github.com/DSpace/DSpace/issues/9530
From Tim Donohue on Github ticket
- All versions of DSpace 7.3+ and 8.x support both ways of storing ORCIDs
- The traditional way of storing ORCIDs with authority records is still supported and is described here: https://wiki.lyrasis.org/display/DSDOC7x/ORCID+Authority
- The new way of storing ORCIDs on Person Entities was added in 7.3. It allows for a tighter integration with ORCID (including authentication). It's described here: https://wiki.lyrasis.org/display/DSDOC7x/ORCID+Integration
You are correct though that there is currently no migration process to move from ORCIDs in Authority records to ORCIDs in Person Entities. I just wanted to clarify that ORCIDs in Authority records are still supported, so site can still upgrade to the latest version of 7.6.x or 8.x and use them. There's no requirement to migrate to using ORCIDs in Person Entities in order to use DSpace 7.6.x or 8.x
- All versions of DSpace 7.3+ and 8.x support both ways of storing ORCIDs
- Sheila provided an update regarding a grant to improve functionality and integration between ORCID and DSpace. As part of this grant project, Sheila's identified some issues that are more complex that will require more community involvement and discussion. Tim Donohue suggested Sheila reach out to DCAT regarding setting up a working group to dive into those issues. Kimberly noted that this work likely involves both technical and user aspects and so could involve a working group that's larger than just DCAT. Iryna expressed interest in being involved in this work. Kimberly and Sheila will meet and Kimberly will discuss with the Steering Committee chair to determine next steps.
- DSpace/DSpace CRIS Info
- Kimberly is working to see where DCAT might fit into these conversations to make sure efforts are coordinated
- Developer Meetings and DCAT Input
- DSpace and OpeAlex integration
- Pierre Lasou willing to attend weekly DSpace developer meetings and bring back issues to the DCAT group. Don't have examples of this yet, but expect that Pierre (or others attending) could bring up issues on the DCAT listserv, potentially have quick ad hoc meetings
- Others who attend developer meetings can get involved by getting in touch with Kimberly
- DSpace and OpenAlex integration
- Timeline: hopefully released in conjunction with DSpace 9.0
