Proposed ontology extension, modification, and documentation workflow for review and comment
Goals
- Document the ontology files used in the VIVO application and how they relate to the modules of the larger, broader-scope full VIVO-ISF ontology
- Add missing basic documentation such as definitions and examples
- Provide an ontology browser environment, ideally one that supports commenting and suggested additions/changes/deprecation
- Move shared local extensions into the 'core' where appropriate
- Address proposed areas for new classes and properties
- e.g., for NLM publication types, the additional humanities support included in Duke's VIVO, additional granularity on grants added into Scripps VIVO
- for datasets, as used on the EarthCollab project
Available approaches
- VIVO task forces – targeted short-term collaborations with defined deliverables and due dates
- A coordinating body of people willing to put in time on a regular basis to coordinate work from the VIVO community and propose it to the wider VIVO-ISF community
- Hackathon projects with ad-hoc groups
