Narrative user story (for sharing/review/voting)
to be written
Background
A faculty or researcher at an institution wishes to log in to edit his/her VIVO profile. S/he can expect to:
- (OK) be able to log in with a local institutional single sign-on system (e.g., WCMC CWID, Cornell NetID, Florida GatorID)
- (OK) be shown what is editable and what is not
- for fields that are not editable, provide instructions which explains how those fields can be changed
- be able to add and edit simple data properties (text, date, numeric, true/false values) with an intuitive editor that allows at least limited formatting of free text – NIHVIVO-1139
- (OK) be able to add object property relationships to other individuals in the local VIVO system, as appropriate for the property in question
- this will sometimes involve a custom form that includes additional editing options, as for educational training or positions
Wish list for improvement
- show the source of each data element - "Graph and provenance metadata" component
- show the last modified date of each data element – NIHVIVO-690
- provide improved type-specific editing for data properties (e.g., dates vs. numbers vs. true/false vs. free text – NIHVIVO-3561
- do a better job of stripping out unwanted HTML tags, including cross site scripting (XSS) attempts – NIHVIVO-3462
- improve autocomplete functions for object properties – NIHVIVO-3386
- more responsive
- more bulletproof in not allowing the entry of duplicate individuals
- allow linking to people/organizations/etc in other VIVOs or in online sources of RDF – NIHVIVO-2373
- specify on a per-person, per-statement basis what data to show publicly – "Context node-based hiding per individual" component
- e.g., select which publications and which grants to show
- for data from another local system of record (SOR), provide a link to the appropriate office to notify that office of the error and hopefully effect a change in the SOR that will be reflected in the next update of VIVO from that source. – deferred to VIVO 1.6; will grow out of the ["Graph and provenance metadata" component
- the ability create galleries and be able to describe them with free text – photo galleries?
- the abilty to sort listed grants and publications – http://issues.library.cornell.edu/browse/NIHVIVO-3415 NIHVIVO-3415
- (OK) the ability add key words
Technical considerations
- many of the wish list features will require improved provenance information
- linking to other VIVOs will require more permanent hosting and updating for the multi-site index now shown at http://vivosearch.org
Priority or staging considerations
- Let's make what we do now (basic editing) work as well as we can before we tackle too many advanced features
- Provenance may need to be implemented in stages
