  • from CrossRef blog post – "Today two new content types were added to dx.doi.org resolution for CrossRef DOIs. These allow anyone to retrieve DOI bibliographic metadata as formatted bibliographic entries. To perform the formatting we're using the citation style language processor, citeproc-js which supports a shed load of citation styles and locales. In fact, all the styles and locales found in the CSL repositories, including many common styles such as bibtex, apa, ieee, harvard, vancouver and chicago are supported[...]"

  • How to look up Library of Congress and VIAF authority records for organizations in your university or anywhere
    • Go to http://authorities.loc.gov/cgi-bin/Pwebrecon.cgi?DB=local&PAGE=First and set the search type to "name authority headings"
    • Search for a department in your university (include your university name), click on the desired result, and look for a link called "Authority Record." results seem to vary depending on what entries catalogers have made
    • That record will have an identifier and list a URI – e.g., http://lccn.loc.gov/n85232974
    • If you click on that link, look for a link on the resulting page that connects to the same record in VIAF, an international database maintained by OCLC and various national libraries – e.g., http://viaf.org/viaf/135574777
