NOTES:
1. DuraSpace-DSpace MOU
- Erin: MOU is still under review by DuraSpace staff and will also likely need review by a lawyer
Edits to Specific Sections
- Background
- Keep formats generic in description (e.g., AV instead of mpegs)
- Clarify "good faith intent": "The parties acknowledge that this MOU is not legally binding; however, the parties agree to work in good faith toward a productive Agreement that benefits both DuraSpace and the DSpace Project."
- DuraSpace Responsibilities
- This section needs review by DuraSpace staff, who are most affected by the language
- Removed some inadvertent redundancy
- Membership Coordination
- Remove specifics about meeting audience and frequency to allow for flexibility
- Terms and Fees
- Agreement is annual. Need to clarify calendar vs fiscal years for both organizations
Next steps
- Draft will be re-distributed to LG after DurSpace and legal reivew. Comments/suggestions can be sent to Salwa.
2. DuraSpace Summit
- John Butler and Maureen Walsh have volunteered to present report out for Leadership. Slides will be prepared and made available to LG for review.
- Zoom will be available throughout the sessions so that people unable to attend in person can participate
- Suggested topics discussion:
- How can we increase support on the committer side from member institutions?
- Not just development but also direction and review.
- Could help think about venues or homes that would support this direction.
- How can we broaden support from developers.
- Summit discussions may useful for brainstorming ideas that could then be taken up by LG or other groups
- How to increase summit participation?
- Needs feedback from those not attending
- Lyrasis merge provides an opportunity. Lyrasis staff could sit in.
- LG could list reasons for not attending in spreadsheet.
- How can we increase support on the committer side from member institutions?
- Agenda will be sent Thursday April 4. Two tracks will be:
- Community Engagement
- developers as well as users and members (e.g., linking DCAT and governance )
- DSpace 7 (& Beyond)
- can cover OpenAIRE, partnerships, developments like Plan S, etc.
- Community Engagement
- Suggestions for future Summits:
- May need to do a better job of making sure that Summit invitations are passed along at member institutions from Directors, etc. to other staff that may be interested.
- Could publicize agenda in advance to increase interest.
- CNI has advantages and disadvantages. May not be as accessible to as many staff from member institutions.
- ArchivesSpace and HathiTrust might be models to look at.
- One day Summit in US makes it difficult for non-US members
3. Looking into the future
- Roadmap planning is important for LG
- Working Groups were defined, but never started work: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1DWz-d9EBaMi7dgfbfqeqVbcj8qDjOyUE_pjcqUYPKJM/edit#gid=0
- Need leaders to step up to move the WGs
- Tech group probably will not start up until DSpace 7 is released. Possibly after OR in July.
- John Butler volunteered to start up Community/sustainability WG sometime in May. Some groundwork can be laid at Summit.
- North American Users Group will be co-hosted by the Texas Digital Library and U of MN in September 23 and 24, and to held at the University of Minnesota. CFP and "save the date" notices should be out by mid- to late-April.
- Google Scholar webinars -- how to configure DSpace (pre-DSpace 7) to maximinze indexing in Google Scholar -- planned for April in Brazil. Hoping to plan for more webinars in South America.
4. Call for May agenda items
- Send to Salwa.
