SHARE Notify In our efforts to continuously improve the wiki (and thanks to all who are commenting, revising, editing), this week, the authorship relationship diagram was revised.  Several minor points were clarified, the dateTimeValue for publications was elaborated, and the presence of a vcard on a publication for the purpose of representing URL(s) – full text, alt-metrics, others – was added.  Thanks to Jon Corson-Rikert for revising the diagram.  These diagrams are created using an interesting piece of open source software "VUE" – Visual Understanding Environment, and available for download from Tufts University at http://vue.tufts.edu/.  VUE is a very handy tool for drawing ontological relationship diagrams – most of the VIVO ontology diagrams are drawn using VUE.Connector Grant awarded. This week, the VIVO project was awarded a grant from the Center for Open Science to develop connector software for VIVO to and from SHARE Notify.  SHARE is a joint effort of the American Research Libraries, the Association of American Universities, and the Association of Public and Land Grant Universities.  SHARE Notify is SHARE's first project, a system for collecting and distributing information about the production and availability of scholarly works.  The three month project will develop open source software available through SHARE and through VIVO, that will allow VIVO sites to publish VIVO data to SHARE Notify, making it available to others through the SHARE Notify infrastructure, and for VIVO sites to consume data from SHARE Notify.  SHARE Notify currently provides data from more than 40 sources, including PubMed and CrossRef.  Some VIVO sites may find the connector a handy way to provide data to their VIVO.

The Duke Story published. As you may know, the implementation of VIVO at Duke University is called scholars@duke, and is one of the premier VIVO implementations. Julia Trimmer and her very talented team selected VIVO as the foundation for their faculty activity system and built a model for others to follow.  The Duke story was covered this week in the "Telling VIVO stories" series on the VIVO blog.  The Duke story is an unqualified success of planning, engagement and execution around a comprehensive VIVO system for a leading research university.

If you have a story to tell regarding your VIVO, we'd love to hear from you.  Contact any member of the Telling VIVO Stories Task Force.

Job available regarding SciENcv.  Last week we heard that Dr. Melissa Haendel at Oregon Health & Science University had received a grant from the National Institutes of Health to align VIVO-ISF with the data models of SciENcv, the US federal grant profile system.  There will be a position opening shortly for an ontologist to work on this effort.  If you are interested, please contact Melissa Haendel.  Duke Story. Congratulations to Melissa Haendel, Oregon Health & Science University and Dave Eichmann, University of Iowa for their recent supplemental award from the National Institutes of Health National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences.  The supplement to the OHSU Clinical and Translational Science Award will fund VIVO-ISF ontology development to align VIVO with SciENcv data schemas.  SciENcv is a researcher profile system for all individuals who apply for, receive or are associated with research investments from US federal agencies. The supplement will also fund software development to enhance CTSAsearch, a large-scale effort to collect VIVO-compatible data provide a faceted search interface based on VIVO-ISF semantics.  Together, the ontology work and the search work should provide a comprehensive search capability across NIH investigators.

Go VIVO!
