LYRASIS has offered training to staff at its member libraries and to individuals at other libraries, archives, museums, and cultural institutions throughout its history as a non-profit membership organization. In the last two years, LYRASIS has expanded its training model and developed LYRASIS Learning, which offers institutions an option to subscribe to all of LYRASIS’s live, online training and access a library of recorded content for one annual fee. LYRASIS live, online classes are available either through a LYRASIS Learning subscription or through individual registration to one class at a time. Copyright training made available through this pilot would be available both to subscribers and non-subscribers, and LYRASIS members and non-members.
LYRASIS is continually expanding its course offerings and working with internal trainers, adjunct instructors, and partner organizations to develop classes on technology, preservation, leadership, and content & scholarly communication. LYRASIS’s largest audience is academic libraries, but participants from museums, archives, historical societies, public libraries, special libraries, and other cultural heritage institutions also attend classes. As LYRASIS’s course topics expand, more participants from different types of institutions attend classes.
LYRASIS provides live, synchronous classes through a webinar platform, and makes recordings of classes available to participants. LYRASIS administers the registration process, and tech support staff to troubleshoot webinar access problems with participants in live sessions.
LYRASIS develops class internally and also works with adjunct instructors to present classes. The LYRASIS Program Leader works with adjuncts to lead them through the class development and scheduling process and provides training on the webinar platform. Adjunct instructors are practitioners from cultural heritage institutions and/or instructors from San Jose State University, or the IIIF consortium, who both collaborate with LYRASIS on training.
LYRASIS seeks to work with the Virtual Copyright Education Center to create synchronous, online classes to meet the need for in-depth copyright training for cultural heritage institutions.
