- Increase visibility and access of content to public and academic libraries through the inclusion of Open Access collections
- Increase access to open content management platforms such as Fulcrum to improve libraries access to content
Background and strategic fit
University Michigan Press and Fulcrum are strategic partners with LYRASIS for promotion of Open Access publishing and collection use.
LYRASIS is also a strategic partner with UMP / Fulcrum for making its licensed collections available to libraries and members.
Knowledge Unlatched is a strategic partner of LYRASIS for promotion of Open Access publishing and collection support.
DPLA and the LYRASIS are strategic partners for the promotion and use of Public Domain and Open Access content via the DPLA Exchanges OpenBookshelf Collection in Public Libraries.
The Library Simplified Project and SimplyE apps have promoted the use and discovery of open access collections and public domain works from UnGlue.it, Project Gutenberg, and Standard Ebooks as well as efforts such as Recovering the Classics since its inception so as to eliminate the need for public libraries to purchase, license and limit access to this content from commercial vendors.
Assumptions
- Integration will utilize open protocols and standards
- Integration will minimize development efforts by LYRASIS and distributors
- Integration will support existing collection integration workflows for UMP and LYRASIS
- Integration will utilize existing features already available in the Circulation Manager such as the OPDS 2.0 Import

User interaction and design
The existing User Interaction for a library is the same. A library collection is added by
- Clicking Add New Collection
- Enter the collection name
- Select the OPDS protocol
- Enter the collection OPDS feed base URL (OPDS 1.2) or Base or Navigation Feed URL
- Enter data Source Name
