Dear PCC colleagues, 


This is the third in a series of quarterly updates from the PCC Chair for this fiscal year. The Chair will provide news and updates at the end of each quarter: November/December, February/March, May, and August.

Below are highlights from the past three months:

 

Programs

  1. The SCT Assessment Task Group for Training and Mentorship Program has been officially launched. 
  2. The PoCo is preparing to establish a new task group on vocabularies, languages, and scripts related to Indigenous Peoples of the Americas, based on the recommendations from the final report of the Task Group on Metadata Related to Indigenous Peoples of the Americas.


Reports and Policies

  1. The SCS Task Group on Privacy in Name Authority Records submitted its final report on December 20, 2024. The final report was approved by PoCo on April 10, 2025.  
  2. The PCC Task Group on AI and Machine Learning for Cataloging and Metadata has drafted the PCC Guiding Principles for Use of AI and Machine Learning Technologies in Cataloging and Metadata Work. Community feedback is being collected through August 1, 2025. 
  3. The PCC Task Group for Metadata Related to Indigenous Peoples of the Americas submitted its final report on March 10, 2025, which was approved on April 10, 2025.
  4. The SCS updated the PCC FAQ: Cataloging of Resources Generated Using  Artificial Intelligence (AI) Software document, and it was approved by PoCo on April 10, 2025. 
  5. The SCS Evaluation Guidelines for Non-Latin Script submitted its final report on March 31, 2025, and it was approved by PoCo on May 8, 2025. It will be available to the community soon. 

 

Events

  1. The PCC At-Large Conference was held on April 23–24, 2025, with 328 attendees participating at peak time. In addition to the presentations, the conference featured rich discussions and thoughtful suggestions. SCMP and PoCo are currently reviewing the input and will incorporate relevant ideas into future events. Responses to some of the questions will be shared with the community soon. 
  2. Upcoming event:
    1. CONSER Workshop (Virtual): May 22, 2025
    2. ALA 2025: PCC will host two events at ALA 2025 in Philadelphia.
  1. PCC Office Hours: Bring Your Questions (June 28, 2025)
  2. PCC and Linked Data (June 29, 2025)

  1. Advisory Committees shared their 2025-2026 work plans:
    1. Advisory Committee on Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, Belonging, and Accessibility (EDIBA) 
    2. Advisory Committee for Library Systems and Vendors (LSV)
    3. Identity Management Advisory Committee (IMAC)
  2. BIBFRAME Interoperability Group (BIG) has been testing the validation tool and BIBFRAME. Please see BIG GitHub repository for issues and updates:

  3. PoCo Election is currently underway. Please cast your vote by May 29, 2025.
