| Story | With large files, it isn't always feasible to keep all data on spinning disk. HSM systems can spool inactive files off to tape, but increase access time significantly. Repository users want to know how long it will take to access an object. Fedora could expose appropriate APIs that allow subsystems to elevate backend metadata to user-facing APIs, e.g. current location of a file. |
