  1. Ben, can you expand on this?

  2. Eddie- One of the difficulties with FCRepo 3 is trying to cluster it (either for throughput or for failover).  FF should support this more "out of the box".  The language about subsystems owes to not knowing what FF will look like (one big app a la FCR3, or CDL-style services).

  3. Oh I know we both know the many difficulties with present Fedora for scaling or failover =). But the point was to solicit specific use cases that your institution saw emerging that present-day Fedora doesn't handle but future Fedora should, and the use case should make clear the nature of the problem ("better horizontal scalability" doesn't really provide the context of the problem let alone how we'd judge a solution successful)

  4. Okay, maybe I should split this into some different use-cases: 1) system/sub-system failover, 2) increasing simultaneous # of requests handled for a resource near-linearly by adding additional machines.  I'm still not sure how much recourse to take to FCR3 terminology or design in these use cases.
