Fedora 6 development will include a pilot program. This page outlines the purpose and objectives of the program, along with the responsibilities of the participants and project team.

Purpose

The primary purpose of the pilot program is to ensure that Fedora 6 meets the real needs of members of the Fedora community.

Objectives

The pilot program has several objectives:

  1. Validate Fedora 6 design against stakeholder requirements
  2. Ensure Fedora 3.x data can be modeled and persisted in Fedora 6 in accordance with stakeholder needs
  3. Validate successful migration of Fedora 3.x content into Fedora 6 (OCFL)
  4. Validate ingest requirements are met
  5. Validate performance requirements are met
  6. Validate search endpoint

Pilot Institution Responsibilities

Pilot institutions agree to the following terms:

  1. Participate in a limited-term pilot project, the timeline of which will be worked out in advance
  2. Provide representative sample data to be modeled in Fedora 6
  3. Provide relevant use cases and/or requirements for Fedora 6
    1. Performance requirements
    2. Scale requirements
    3. Migration requirements
    4. Ingest requirements
  4. Provide feedback on deliverables as development progresses
    1. This may involve running test installations of Fedora 6 locally
  5. Regularly attend weekly Fedora tech calls
  6. Participate in the #fedora6-pilots Slack channel
  7. Provide timely responses to communication related to the pilot
  8. Collaborate on pilot final report

Project Team Responsibilities

The Fedora project team agrees to the following terms:

  1. Participate in a limited-term pilot project, the timeline of which will be worked out in advance
  2. Model pilot data in Fedora 6 to get feedback
  3. Receive, discuss, and prioritize pilot use cases and requirements
  4. Solicit pilot feedback on deliverables as development progresses
  5. Regularly attend weekly Fedora tech calls

  8. Collaborate on pilot final report
