Modeshape's most official roadmap is somewhat dated, and focuses on the features planned for 4.0.
Based on recent blog posts and issues in the JIRA issue tracker:
- Feature work on 3.x is done, with only bugfix releases expected going forward
- 4.0.0.Beta1 is due to be released 8/27 (today)
- Fixes several bugs that prevented REST API updates from working with a federated filesystem
- 4.0.0.Beta2 is due to be released 9/10
- The major bug targeted for this release is improving performance of nodes with a large number of children (i.e., fcrepo3-style flat list of thousands of objects)
- 4.0.0.Final expected within a few months
- There is a 4.1 release slated as a placeholder for bugs not fixable in 4.0 (very similar to the notional Fedora 4.1)
- JSR-333/JCR 2.1 spec support
- Improving Java client library
- Configuration templates
- Searching/indexing improvements
I have not been able to find any planning for longer-term roadmap.
