Viewing and Praising UCSD's hydra-head

Supporting developers to work on projects outside sprints

Community developers have voiced interest in working on non-critical F4 features
Generally, they are not in a position to drive their own priorities
Q: Do we want to support this "non-sprint" work?
Q: If yes, how do we do that?
Note: some institutions can not commit to sprints, but can commit to tasks

We can post non-critical features for community work
We can ask for feature suggestions

Recognition that this model got us in the F3 problem three years ago

What is the model two years from now?

  • Will sprints still exist?
  • Will most work come from adhoc contributions

Q: What developer commitment is required to sustain the project?

Important that the process is managed and focused

  • Value in having a roadmap

Developer outreach could help in the case where community features arise

  • F4 java-client-library
  • Islandora over F4

When projects arise, leadership can reach out to appropriate management

Fedora 4 training

Recently David W. attended IslandoraCamp in Toronto

Topic: Longer, more intensive, 3-5 day, training program

Three one-day trainings are coming in the Fall
If we want a more intensive training program, we need support

  • Tom volunteered

Q: Do we want to put project money towards developing a ciriculum?

  • It would be helpful to estimate the cost (what does IslandoraCamp cost?)
    • 3-day camp = $10k - $12k, does not count ciriculum development

Can we establish an honorarium (academic stipend) for ciriculum development?

Is there anyone in the community that would be suitable?

  • We first need to establish a "plan of work" before making a request

Action: define projected costs of developing a program

  • Have community review costs

David will make membership prospects available

Acceptance testing

VaTech has been doing a great job with testing
We need more participation
