Release Manager

Required:
+ Is a committer

Per point release (e.g., quarterly)

  • Per-release feature scoping (w/group consensus)
  • Keeps tabs, makes sure people are assigned
  • Guards against scope/feature creep
  • Coordinates & communicates with authors of other tools on release ordering/compatibility issues
  • Coordinates pre-release testing
  • Physically performs the release (tagging, uploading, announcing, etc)
  • Decides on and communicates release dates to user and developer community

JIRA Gardener

Required:
+ Technical familiarity w/Fedora
Preferred:
+ Not a committer

Indefinite

  • Generally, keeps JIRA issues up to date
  • Harvests issues from mailing list
  • Ensures proper discussion of non-obvious issues before they go to "Open" state
  • Periodically reviews older issues for relevance

Documentation Gardener

Preferred:
+ Tech writing skills
+ Technical familiarity w/Fedora

Indefinite

  • Works with release manager to ensure the following system docs are up to date for upcoming releases:
    • Release notes
    • New features have appropriate docs
    • Old features are up to date
  • Reviews system documentation for accuracy, completeness, and usability (ongoing)
  • Ensures proper linkage to system docs from other areas of the site (main fedora-commons homepage, and other spaces in the wiki)

[11:57] <barmintor> from the pool of paid technologists at Fedora-using institutions
[11:57] <barmintor> by guilting/praising managers there
[11:57] <barmintor> if the release procedure were sufficiently contained/documented
[11:58] <barmintor> to make the commitment of time a comprehensible quantity
[11:58] <awoods> it seems that the momentum is to have those wanting the release (b/c they have/need a feature)
