The classic data model of DSpace-CRIS is focussed on persons, organisational units, projects and publications. It has been expanded to include around 30 entities that map engagement of research projects to make societal impacts more likely, but also categories in which outcomes like the real-world-use of research results can be recorded. In addition, information was integrated that is necessary to be able to replace parts of proposals and reports (e.g. work packages or milestones).

The figure shows an overview of the most important entities of the data model.  The compiled metadata and the scales and lists used are based on the approaches and theories that are dedicated to enhance societal impact and also used for the criteria set. The data model thus creates the basis for the collection of granular, machine-readable data and the use of the diverse search, filter and analysis options of DSpace-CRIS. At the same time, text fields for individual descriptions are also provided in each entity, which means that qualitative analyses are still possible.

The complete data model can be accessed via the attached Excel tables for configuring the submission forms.
