Notes
Moving CRIS documentation in the DSpace wiki
- This was discussed in Steering; Steering asked if we could formalize a proposal
- Discussed pros and cons in Steering; discussed to move it into the existing space; discussed if this could be perceived as moving already ahead with the merger
- Question: Do we need to put this on the Lyrasis' wiki, or can we just set up a wiki space?
- Confluence charges by user (cost factor); also want to avoid duplication of accounts
- DSpace-CRIS used to have their documentation in the Lyrasis wiki and moved it out
- Is it lost work if the merger doesn't happen? No guarantee that it will be maintained in the wiki
- Question: Do we need to put this on the Lyrasis' wiki, or can we just set up a wiki space?
- We will discuss this again at the next meeting; Agustina, Tim, and Holger will start work on a proposal document in the meantime
DSpace Product Visioning Group Report
- Does the merger fit into the wider vision of this report? Does this align with our high-level strategy? Feedback could be that the strategy may be revised, but we need to respect the group's work
- We already took into account the main points of this document - modularization, integration, etc.
- This is not something that needs to be done right this moment, we could do this later; just reference this report in our Strategic Vision Document for now
- The vision of the merge is "outlining a long-term vision of a merged product" – this calls for incorporating anything currently missing from the report in our discussions
Strategic Vision Document
- It was suggested to keep the core of DSpace simple and adding modules, instead of overloading DSpace with all CRIS features
- When reviewing different features and functions, it can be at times difficult to understand how these features work – include the point of improved documentation in document
- Question: are the high-level goals merger blockers if they don't occur? Specifically Nr. 6 "Accelerate Community-Led Innovation" – this is something that needs to be solved whether the merger goes forward or not; not part of this group's assignment or goal; better to move this into the "challenges" section
- This document is the aspirational part, it doesn't have to solve everything; it's the first piece of the work of this group
- Nr. 5 "Foster Governance Integration and Participation" change to "encourage participation"
- Vision work - part of that is making sure that we hear from the community and are reaching out to the community; need to create opportunities, avenues for that sort of community engagement
- Add how we can facilitate gathering views from community
- Include currently underrepresented areas such as Asia, Australasia; work through National User Groups
- We will continue to work on this offline and send it to Steering as soon as today's suggestions have been incorporated
