15minsQuick reminder of DSpace 7 release schedule/goals

Just a reminder of our goals. We'd want to see an Entities PR to "master" by late Dec / early January to stay on target.

  • Late January / Early February: 7.0 "Preview" release (not feature complete, but should include an early version of Configurable Entities)
  • By late April: 7.0 "Beta" release (first feature complete release)
  • By late May (prior to OR2019): 7.0 "Final" release

All dates are goals/estimates. For later dates to make sense, we need to meet the first goal.

  • Review of timelines. Timelines are getting tight, as ideally we'd have "master" branch changes merged a few weeks before Preview Release.
  • Feedback on PRs
    • Mostly looking good. More feedback needed on each
    • REST Contract needs updates per Andrea's comments:  https://github.com/DSpace/Rest7Contract/pull/40
    • Entity vs Item discussion.  We don't have an exact path forward yet.  Need feedback from Marketing Group on which term to use for DSpace. 
      • Table both DS-4082 / PR#2300 for after the Preview release.
  • Left to do Before Preview Release
    • REST API Contract needs finalized: https://github.com/DSpace/Rest7Contract/pull/40
    • Mixing regular text metadata with Entities (coming soon - before next meeting!)
      • PR for REST API (should include REST Contract)
      • PR for Angular UI
    • Lieven: Sample data for prototype (Make available for download as well as a SQL - as it'll have actual Journals, etc)
    • Lieven: Google Doc consolidation (some in marketing and some in wiki or Google Doc)
      • Update existing Documentation to describe how to manage relations.  This documentation need not be highly detailed, but should more talk about the high level process of creating/updating/deleting relations & how newly configured relations can also be created/updated/deleted.
    • (If possible) Creating a Relation (between two objects) from the Angular UI. However, this requires Submission UI, so it's not likely to be in the Preview Release
  • Steering next meets on Weds, Jan 16.
    • Tim will pass along that we are running behind on Entities and are not likely to meet current Preview Release deadlines.
    • Will get feedback from Steering on how to adjust those Release deadlines
    • Also need feedback on whether Marketing Group has started up and how to work with them on Marketing Entities for Preview Release.
  • Next Meeting: Next Meeting: Tues, January 22 at 16:00 UTC
    • Concentration on "wrapping up" tasks left to do before Preview Release
