The Virtual Copyright Education Center aligns with the LYRASIS mission and vision. Through copyright education, we advance enduring and lawful access to academic, scientific and cultural heritage. Continued education resources empower archives, libraries, museums and knowledge communities. Delivering this pilot shows leadership in our communities by filling a gap and collaborating with higher education to fill it with a cost-recovery model. We have strength in scale, skill, and sustainability. Let’s use it to deliver this mission-critical service to our communities.
At the same time, the Virtual Copyright Education Center meets the need to magnify the capacity of copyright experts working with or within libraries, archives and museums to deliver quality education specifically designed to cover copyright issues critical to their respective missions. As it has been determined through research conducted thus far, many if not most copyright advisory offices and experts cannot meet the demand for their services in a way that makes a significant difference. It’s a fundamental issue of scale and a significant requirement for infrastructure.
