DSpace 10 provides configuration options to control or prevent email delivery. These settings are especially useful in development and test environments to avoid sending messages to real users.

Disabling the Mail Server

The mail server can be completely disabled using the following property:

mail.server.disabled = true

When this option is enabled:

  • No emails are sent by DSpace
  • DSpace logs the subject of each email that would have been sent
  • No message is delivered to any recipient

By default, the property is set to:

mail.server.disabled = false

Catch‑All Email Configuration

DSpace 10 also supports a catch‑all mechanism that redirects all outgoing emails to a predefined list of recipients.

To enable this feature, the following properties must be configured:

mail.server.catchAll.enabled = true
mail.server.catchAll.recipient = admin@example.org,test@example.org

When the catch‑all system is enabled:

  • All emails are sent only to the addresses specified in mail.server.catchAll.recipient
  • Original recipients do not receive the email
  • The original recipients are logged for reference

Important Notes

The two features serve different purposes:

  • mail.server.disabled completely suppresses email delivery
  • mail.server.catchAll.enabled allows email delivery, but only to controlled recipients
  • No labels
