Discovery (WP3)

  • https://github.com/LD4P/discovery/projects/2 for issues etc.
  • Research: how to go from knowledge graph to an index
    • Research decision points, Use cases
    • Jamboard link
    • Expect to include Works. Need to do something beyond what we already have live from the OCLC concordance data.
    • References/bibliography list (beginning)BANG! (Bibliographic Aspects Newly GUI'd)BANG! preliminary design-ish/data questions link
    • 2022-09-08
      • Based on usability results: Changed link to button with label to "Explore adaptations, translations, and more"; refined contents of related page; highlights on titles; added "View all item by" for author
      • Later today Steven, Astrid, Huda will work out plan for "infomercial" demo
      • Plan to show demo system to D&A but will have to explain what could be extended and what depends on new data and/or Sinopia relationships
        • "four easy installments of dollar-zeros"
    • 2022-09-15
      • Merged in latest from upstream dev and have branch running on LD4P3 web server. Greg helped address an error that was occurring.
      • Began script writing with Steven and Astrid. Will do demo today.
  • Post-BANG
    • 2022-08-12 YR3 Ideas:
      • Separately, for reference, a list of use cases we compiled over LD4P2: Link
      • Huda has discussed with Hilary use cases of Work data useful for ILL (Link). Jason notes interest in the FOLIO community for Work data for this purpose
      • Music details using new cataloging
      • In POD analysis used LOC Hubs to connect things from different institutions; possible also SVDE tenant for BD data
      • To combine new music data with BD data need to think about identifiers the new data will include that leads to connections, note that we will also have music-specific ids
      • User propositions:
        • Our copy is checked out, would one of these versions at other institutions be useful?
        • We have a score and out metadata doesn't describe related recordings we don't have, but now we can show these recordings from other institutions. This provides access to useful materials and a better picture of what is available generally
        • For a popular work, our edition X is checked out, the system could show an equivalent edition Y that otherwise wouldn't be shown (ILL staff may manually point this out but that is manual work and much slower for the user)
      • Questions:
        • Scores, LPs, etc. often are onsite use only. What ILL services are there? Do they scan?  — Steven to ask Tracey to understand, maybe also discuss with Caitlin
    • 2022-09-08
      • We understand that comic book sounds have meanings, we need to be careful what we use
      • Steven suggests that we might have most impact if we look at what new data could add to existing systems and processes. Focus on identifier driven additions
      • → try brainstorming this from the user perspective (then worry about data)
      • Steven will follow up with Tracey about possible ILL connections, and about how connections to Wikidata are managed
    • 2022-09-15
      • Steven reached out to Tracey to ask if she has time to discuss our ideas
      • Huda will try to collect together ideas and thoughts since start of this discussion
  • DAG Calls

Linked-Data Authority Support (WP2)

Other Topics

  • Catalogers working on LD4P effort(s), namely around music
    • 2022-08-12 Jason discussed cataloging work with Tracey and she is confident that they will have data by the end of 2022, they are going to focus on Vivaldi. MLA folks on wikidata project feel comfortable with that timeline. Will check in again in October
  • POD & SHARE-VDE... should this team interact with that re: use cases, data analysis or other?
    • 2022-09-15: Tech services reps from Columbia, Cornell, Penn, Stanford and Yale met to outline work. Will be acclimating ourselves to both SVDE and POD in coming weeks; once we better understand the state of things, will better define use cases. Casalini expects it to take a few months to set up the SVDE instance for POD.
  • Sinolio - Sinopia-FOLIO
    • Possibly next work cycle toward end 2022
  • Entity Management in FOLIO
  • Authorities in FOLIO
    • 2022-07-21:
      • Breakthrough this week! Frances processing Peter Ward files weekly; sharing report from LC, strategizing how to convert JSON to spreadsheets for Mary to work; productive and identifying improvements. Soon can start doing authority maintenance through this process.
      • Discussed FAST maintenance strategy going forward... agree we need to do it but outstanding questions persist. Agree that should use OCLC change report. Assuming FOLIO works on better overlay strategy, considering pulling from OCLC. For records where we only have FAST, interested in pulling in LCSH
    • 2022-08-12 Recent presentation giving past, present and future of our authorities maintenance. Currently about 95% of the way there, even without a FOLIO maintenance module.
  • BIBFRAME Interoperability Group (BIG) - Steven Cornell rep and Jason alternate

Upcoming meetings/presentations

  • BF Europe (Budapest)
    • Jason planning to attend in person
    • Huda will present virtually on Sept 20
    • 9/15: Have roped in Steven as co-presenter!
  • LD4P Fall meeting and Interoperability meeting, DC, November 7-9  at LC
    • LD4P meeting and also the data interoperability meeting
  • SWIB (virtual) - https://swib.org/swib22/. Nov 28 - Dec 2
    • Data provenance and transparency in UI
