Agenda

    • VIVO - ElasticSearch integration
    • VIVO 1.15.0 - Release Testing - 1.15.0
      • Five people tested new features - response summary
        • 1 of those 5 didn't manage to test hide faux object property successfully. Taking into account that 4 others testers did that, I think this feature is working (I have also tested that), but we should give our best in documenting how this should be done
        • 2 of 5 testers complained on message when they are providing a non-existing user email in I forgot my password page. The message is that an email has been sent, and it is desired feature. Initially, Ivan implemented two type of messages, no user account associated with that email and an email has been sent, but then we concluded in this way we are revealing existing account of a VIVO instance.
      • Three persons tested standard features - response summary
        • Add research areas using vocabulary services for UMLS is not working. It might be that API has been changed, I think this is not a blocker for VIVO 1.15.0. I will open a ticket for this issue.
        • Visualizations issues
          • Map of Science
            • google maps should be replaced with open street map
            • limited list of journals
          • Capability map
            • a lot of debug messages in the console
          • Publication sparkline
            • last 10 full years (2014-2023, no publications from 2024)
            • show numbers even when publications are hidden (is this bug or feature)
    • Software instances in VIVO
    • VIVO demo site
    • Summer mode
      • 2nd, 9th, 23rd of July, 6th, 20th, 27th of August

Notes

VIVO - ElasticSearch integration

The PR for using ElasticSearch (7 or 8) or OpenSearch as a VIVO search engine has been completed. The review process should be organized. Dragan proposed a review of the system's capabilities and functionalities (meaning testing) by BrCris team members and Victor agreed to discuss the possibility of testing and reviewing the system with Washington. Dragan will also review the PR code, and Dragan will ask William Welling to be also a reviewer.

VIVO 1.15.0 - Release Testing - 1.15.0

Dragan reported about the release candidate testing procedure. He identified potential issues with the UMLS vocabulary import, visualizations and UI improvements, suggesting these might be addressed in the next release. Brian thinks the UMLS issue is problematic, because if it is a bug it is a bad practice to publish a release with a bug we are aware of. It should be addressed or the feature should be removed. Dragan will investigate this and report to the committers’ group.

Software instances in VIVO

Dragan informed the community that University of Novi Sad got a small grant from the Fair Impact Project aimed at enhancing the description of software instances within VIVO, with a focus on aligning the VIVO ontology with the Code Meta schema. The first step is alignment of the VIVO ontology with Code Meta schema and potential extension of the VIVO ontology. A couple of PRs have been created over the VIVO ontology GitHub repository. There might be in the future also some PRs linked with the VIVO platform codebase.

VIVO demo site

Bridget and Dragan discussed the ongoing work on hosting a VIVO demo web site by the Lyrasis team. They considered enhancing the Docker instance with sample data and test accounts but could not reach a decision on the type of data to be used.

Summer mode

No objection to switching to biweekly meetings during the summer. The next meeting will be on 23rd of July, followed by a meeting on 6th of August, and 20th of August. After that, we will switch back to weekly meetings.
