Discussion items
Notes
Catch-up, Announcements
Wouter will share slides from recent presentation
Request from tech team: SWAG suggestions for upcoming meetings and demos–pens, stickers, other?
- Looking at small, inexpensive, easy to mail items; must be simple to produce; no capacity for complex items
- An investment in marketing; which objects will generate greatest visibility
- City maps of city that meeting/conference is in; great idea, no capacity for that degree of one-off production
- Like backlight stickers (something over the apple light on computers—not all people have the same computer
- Regular stickers are often put on backs of computers–good visibility
- Content: logo is dated; alternative?
- Wouter will look into what open source projects are doing by next meeting
- Image over the back of cell phone; maybe too personal?
Resume review use cases related to browse and search
- One more comment on End User - Search for items - DSpace - DuraSpace Wiki
- Specifications are correct and everyone agrees with the use case; valid and desirable function; "jump to lists" are not as intuitive as they might be; change "jump by" that filters list as user would expect
- Admin UI - Configure and manage custom facets - DSpace - DuraSpace Wiki, not included in DSpace 6; not a good idea to include in DSpace 7; more of admin functionality
- Admin UI - Rebuild the discovery index - DSpace - DuraSpace Wiki not included in DSpace 6; not a good idea to include in DSpace 7; more of admin functionality “nice to have”
- Admin UI - Move a collection and trigger a re-index - DSpace - DuraSpace Wiki May/may not be included; solr index changes accordingly; functionally one requires the other (previous 2 UCs)
- Admin UI - Trigger the re-index of a collection - DSpace - DuraSpace Wiki Duplicate of above; more specific version of above; not included in DSpace 6; desired at the moment; not sure about priority; move collections and trigger re-index would be preferable; triggering a re-index should only be possible for the repo admin; auto re-index controlled by admin
- Admin UI - Manage Indexes/Indexing - DSpace - DuraSpace Wiki summary of previously discussed use cases, not included in DSpace 6, “nice to have”
- Stats/Metrics - Distinguish full-text searches from faceted navigation - DSpace - DuraSpace Wiki search stats from repo as a whole, a community or collection; http://demo.dspace.org/xmlui/handle/10673/31/statistics user stats; http://demo.dspace.org/xmlui/handle/10673/30/search-statistics admin stats; current functionality is only for JSPUI; XMLUI is more sophisticated–would be good to have this; to analyze behavior of users
- Stats/Metrics - Clarify “Page Views per Search” - DSpace - DuraSpace Wiki
- End User - Enhanced access to related items - DSpace - DuraSpace Wiki
General comments
- Is there other functionality that is higher on the list?
- Stats need to be more robust; having only a number of views per page is not meaningful
- Virtual stats include by default?
- Not currently in development
- Some of these use cases seem out of context
- Note: next meeting be aware that we are moving on to review authorization and authentication use cases
- Divide the work and compile new use cases; re-work the use cases that need to be re-worked
- Mariya to compile a list of use cases related authorization and authentication–logging on, collection authorization and groups
- Would be good to provide feedback to the community on how these use cases are morphing into functionality
- Visuals on transformations would be good
- Mariya had a questions from a repo manager—concerned about preservation of core functionality; will we be losing something that we are used to without getting something back?
Action Items
- Carol Minton Morris draft community message regarding attendance at targeted meetings/conferences
- Wouter Janssens (@mire) to meet with tech team rep to align with Outreach work
- Wouter Janssens (Atmire) to re-write relevant search and browse use cases for review
- Mariya Maistrovskaya to compile a list of use cases related authorization and authentication for review by Outreach
- Mariya Maistrovskaya to begin draft of update community expectation management article focused on search and browse functionalities (2-3 weeks)
