Upgrade from any past version of DSpace!

Installing DSpace provides an overview of the DSpace installation process and all prerequisite software.  You should review this before attempting an upgrade, in order to ensure you are running the required versions of Java, Node, etc.

Upgrading DSpace provides a guide for upgrading from any old version of DSpace.  As in the past, your data migrates automatically, no matter which older version you are running.

Migrating DSpace to a new server provides an alternative way to upgrade by installing the new version of DSpace and migrating your existing data over.

11.0 Release Notes

The documentation on this page is in draft state & may be inaccurate. DSpace 11.0 is unreleased and is due in mid-2027. For the latest status, please see DSpace Release 11.0 Status.

DSpace 11.0 is a major release of the DSpace platform.  It provides new features and improvements, along with bug fixes.  You should be aware that all major releases may provide some "breaking changes" (major changes that may impact your local customizations).

New User Features

  • Features ported to DSpace from DSpace-CRIS via the ongoing merger.
    • Bulk import from Excel file. It is now possible to perform a bulk import using an Excel file to describe metadata and link to files available via a remote URL (HTTP/FTP) or a path on the server (in a secure folder). See #11968 and #5135 (Donated by 4Science)

Breaking Changes

The following major changes may negatively impact or "break" your local customizations to prior versions of DSpace.  Please be aware of them before upgrading.

  • Restored dynamic component decorators. During the Angular standalone migration the dynamically generated decorator maps were replaced with static ones. The functionality to dynamically generate these maps has now been restored, and the decorators on the components were restored as well. #4528
