Dear PCC colleagues,
This is the third in a series of news updates to the PCC members from the PCC chair in this fiscal year. The Chair sends an update to the PCC list at the end of each quarter (November, February, May and August).
These are some of the things that have been happening during the last three months:
- The PCC Participants meeting (in-person) at ALA conference will be held on June 25 (Sunday), 4-5:30pm (Central) at Hyatt Regency McCormick Place (HQ hotel) - Ballroom A, 2233 S. Martin Luther King Drive, Chicago, IL. A virtual meeting with the same agenda will be held after ALA (e.g. late July). The agenda will be posted on the calendar page when it becomes available.
- The PCC Code of Conduct was revised to include policies concerning inappropriate comments in the PCC discussion lists, and was approved by the Policy Committee (PoCo) on May 3.
- The 2023-2027 PCC Strategic Directions was approved by the Policy Committee on March 9, and has been posted on the PCC website. The Strategic Directions, 2018-2022 website is archived for historic interest only, including Outcomes and Accomplishments.
- The PCC Operations Committee Meeting (Hybrid) was held from May 4 (8:30am-5:00pm, Eastern) to May 5 (8:30am-12:00pm, Eastern) at the Library of Congress. The agenda, recording and presentation files are available at this direct link.
- The Work plan, 2023-2024 of the ACDEI (Advisory Committee on Diversity Equity and Inclusion) was endorsed by the PoCo on May 15 and it has been posted and linked to the top of the committee website.
- PCC ACDEI created and posted the resource page: Land Acknowledgements and Indigenous Metadata Resources on April 19.
- The PCC Task Group for Metadata Related to Indigenous Peoples charge was approved by PoCo on April 20.
- The Share-VDE (SVDE) PCC Data Pool Data Evaluation Task Group issued the final report. The group completed testing and shared testers’ feedback with the Share-VDE on January 31. The final report was vetted by PoCo on May 11.
- The Task Group Charge Template was revised, adding a new section for specifying strategic directions relevant to the work of the task group; this was approved by PoCo on May 2.
- SCS Policy Recommendations on Non-Latin Script Cross-Reference Special Coding Practice in the LC/NACO Name Authority File was approved by PoCo on April 24. (updated May 16, 2023; effective August 15, 2023.) Please note that these recommendations should not be used yet, as the implementation date is in August.
- The recommendations in the final report of the Task Group on PCC Required Contributions were approved by PoCo on April 13.
- The SCS Pilot Group on CONSER Policies issued the preliminary assessment of deliverables on April 14.
- PCC decisions about the implementation timeline of the Official RDA Toolkit are coming soon.
