Dear PCC colleagues,

This is the fourth in a series of news updates to the PCC members from the PCC chair in this fiscal year. The Chair sends an update to the PCC list at the end of each quarter (November, February, May and August).

These are some of the things that have been happening during the last three months:

  1. On August 21, a joint call for volunteers to serve on PCC standing committees and advisory committees was sent to the PCC community. To apply or nominate, please use the Google form at: PCC Committee Member volunteer form. We will accept applications until September 17, 2023.
  2. The PCC Participants meeting (virtual) was conducted on July 27, 1-2:30pm (Eastern), and the agenda and link to Recording (Passcode: N72FfkY@) has been posted on the calendar page.
  3. The PCC Participants meeting (in-person) at ALA conference was held on June 25 (Sunday), 4-5:30pm (Central) at Hyatt Regency McCormick Place (HQ hotel) - Ballroom A, 2233 S. Martin Luther King Drive, Chicago, IL. 
  4. SCS Policy Recommendations on Non-Latin Script Cross-Reference Special Coding Practice in the LC/NACO Name Authority File was revised and approved by PoCo on August 9. The PoCo has decided to delay implementation of the new Non-Latin reference practice, and to defer publishing the proposed revisions to the DCM Z1 and other documentation. August 15, 2023 will no longer be Day One. 
  5. PCC Position Statement on Personal Data in Name Authority Records, drafted by ACDEI (Advisory Committee on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion), was approved by PoCo on July 12. 
  6. All the recommendations in the LDAC/IMAC URIs Guidance Subgroup: Final Report were approved by PoCo on June 8. In response to recommendation 6 in the report, IMAC volunteered to charge a new task group to implement this recommendation. 
  7. SCS Task Group on Accessibility Information in Provider Neutral Records was charged by the Standing Committee on Standards and approved by PoCo on July 20. 
  8. The amended charge of the Task Group on PCC Required Contributions, including an additional point about creating an implementation plan and added another due date for it, was approved by PoCo on July 26.  
  9. PoCo approved a  statement to include in upcoming calls for volunteers, drafted by ACDEI (Advisory Committee on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion), on August 2. 
  10. PoCo approved that PCC Sinopia Cataloging Affinity Group move their documentation from their current wiki to the PCC wiki. As of 17 August 2023, the group has moved their wikispace to the PCC Wiki: PCC Sinopia Cataloging Affinity Group.
  11. Based on the timeline of the strategic directions and SD survey results (June 2023) to prioritize action items, PCC Strategic Directions progress 2023- (working document) has been updated and new task groups (e.g. Vendor Consultation Group) will be established soon.  
  12. Survey on the Purpose of PCC OpCo Meeting was sent to the PCC community on July 6 and closed on August 21. It is to assess the needs and desires of the PCC community regarding the traditional function and structure of the annual Operations Committee (OpCo) meeting. The survey results will be shared in the fall. 
  13. PCC Will Have a Rolling Implementation of Official RDA from May 1, 2024 to April 30, 2027 (June 13, 2023 announcement)
