Duke - moving along; hoping to get the first publication data from Symplectic Elements very soon
Florida - 6478 primary, high-level courses and some 27,000 courses in any given semester – would be interesting to know how many teacher roles. Been running one semester a day for 5 days, so will double to triple that amount. Started with fall of 2008, that became 3000 courses and 7000 course sections. No feedback yet – will announce when up to date with current semester. The message web service part of the new HR update process is complete – working through all the business rules for people, so don't take out information that don't want to pull out, and get the home department relationships correct when people move.

Johns Hopkins - Talked with Mike Conlon at the CNI Identity Management workshop yesterday; heard about the ORCID unique identifiers and how they will be deployed and used. Look for a report.

Weill Cornell - A new development manager, Mohammad Mansour, has joined the development. Had some database issues this week – just migrated the VIVO database to a cluster that has other databases; apparently is an issue with the installation rather than with VIVO. May be some kind of delay in the permission information being passed to the database itself – may have to wait a day or so when restarting Tomcat. Worked with Stephen WIlliams in committing changes to the Harvester repository on GitHub. UF has also had a similar issue that was solved by using a DSA key rather than an RSA key – GitHub does not use passwords.

Features for VIVO 1.5

We will begin an ongoing discussion of new features for VIVO 1.5 – what we think will be included, what opportunities there are to participate and/or contribute, and what may have to wait until further design work and/or developer time is available.

The development process at Cornell focuses more around development "components" as we have interpreted them for use in the Jira issue tracking system; components are often defined by development tasks more than the features they will enable, but enough development on 1.5 has been completed that we now have a better sense of what features will be delivered for 1.5 and what will not be fully implemented until 1.6.

We are still targeting the end of May or early June for a code freeze, but anticipate at least 3 weeks of testing given the extent of changes for 1.5; this timetable projects a release in early to mid July, giving sites that wish to upgrade before the conference ample time to do so. Version 1.6 will not be released before the VIVO conference in late August.

Implementation Fest update

The 2012 VIVO Implementation Fest will be held May 14-16 in Boulder, CO on the University of Colorado Boulder campus. The Implementation Fest is an opportunity for VIVO implementation teams from around the country to gather, share, learn and exchange information related to technical and policy/adoption aspects of VIVO. The goal of the Implementation Fest is to assist, support and help facilitate ongoing VIVO implementations.

We’ll be contacting representatives from a number of known VIVO implementations about the event. Because VIVO is an open source! community, we might miss your institution or you know of someone implementing VIVO off the radar please don't hesitate to contact us. Stay tuned for an online survey requesting additional feedback.

The University of Florida will demonstrate the latest on their course ingest and their implementation of logging for the Harvester and for VIVO itself, including the ability to produce reports of all the changes made to the UF VIVO every day.

Stephen Williams will also have a demo of using GitHub.
