ITAV Resources Phases
- Creating Consistency
- Diversification
- Stable, but not Static
VIVO Resources Phase: 1
- Core Goal: Creating Consistency
- Create a sustainability plan focused on achieving a consistent and sustained level of resources. That may be a mix of reliable, predictable financial resource streams as well as time/efforts commitments from volunteers or consistency allocated staff time from dedicated institutions.
- Phase 1 Characteristics
- Single funder or champion
- Staff is grant-funded
- Small number of contributors
- Moving Forward Objectives
- Undertake business and financial sustainability planning
- Determine human resources needed to move forward
- Explore partnerships and collaborations
ITAV Planning Exercise: Resources
In order to grow, launch, and thrive, OSS programs need human and fiscal resources. Programs need to evaluate their resource plans in response to the broader technology landscape and trends in the domain the VIVO serves. Some trends may be positive, such as the current increased focus in higher education on supporting open resources and technologies. Other trends may be challenging, such as cuts to funding agencies.
This exercise will help identify the broad trends that may affect VIVO. This process will help leadership understand how changes in its environment may affect long-term sustainability.
- Share results of trends submitted
- Vote on importance (i.e. more important, more attention should be paid)
- Discussion questions:
- What is most exciting or inspiring about this map?
- What concerns you about this map?
- What appears to be a central issue or key problem for us?
- What are some examples of how these trends have played out?
- Given what we see here, what options are open to us?
Next Steps
TBD
