March DuraSpace Summit breakout topics | debra hanken kurtz Jonathan Markow Tom Cramer Group | Looking for general and breakout topics for the summit. Three, 45 minute discussion topics on the second day in the past. May do this on both days this time. Also plenary session topic suggestions welcome. Stefano - Explore connecting with DSpace community to become a Fedora instance. Merge the communities where there are commonalities. - Discussions of the possibility of having DSpace exposing it’s own REST API to service the Fedora specification.
- Fedora having a RESTful interface and DSpace implementing this API to use the Fedora Repo part.
- This topic has come up multiple times and the community has previous not been ready for this beyond experimental phase. They could never gain traction for whatever reason.
- Ultimately, may be worth time to get people together and feel out the DSpace community and who among the stakeholders is interested in this type of discussion and if it is worth a more formal discussion at OR.
- Looking to get a discussion around Sufia, HyBox, DSpace, Fedora and how they relate. Largely this is around what is a good out of the box session and how they fit what roles
- Hosted
- Jonathan suggests preparing for this with advanced discussion with the DSpace community first.
- DSpace is talking a lot about a new roadmap, UI, and architecture
- Andrew - at the DSpace API level
- Stefano - envision a DSpace built upon Fedora API
- Sandy - the topic has come up many times in the past. Community wasn't ready for it then. Not sure now.
- Tom - Friendly plenary presentation about the API might be well received. Andrew has been volunteered.
- Andrews - HyBox has some bearing on this as well as a "Fedora Inside" DSpace. To what degree should we push this?
- Jonathan - been working closely with their redesign. Out of the box nature is paramount. HyBox is approaching this, but the Fedora parts look over complicated to that community.
- Andrews - the discussion could revolve around HyBox and where it might intersect with DSpace.
- Jon - HyBox implications discussion would really be good.
- Susan - the audience will be senior decision makers, not always tech
- Sandy - branding was DSpace = out of the box, Fedora = build your own. These concepts are intersecting. Community could use a refresh on what out of the box solutions mean.
- Jonathan - hearing DSpace redesign would help a lot with Fedora API.
- Declan - meta discussion about how to have this discussion...
Tom - hosted - services
- Maurice and Shield project
- Robin - use Use cases, actors for art museums
- Julie? - mixes nicely with cultural heritage discussions
- Tom - market Market expansion - other verticals and territoriesDeclan - maybe
- Maybe plenary on European market penetration since DSpace has done well here (Vivo too)
- Jonathan - large Large organizations?
- Sandy - Vivo/Fedora Integration (maybe DSpace too?)
- Tom - cross pollination benefits are high
- Lyrasis merger discussion and how it impacts Fedora
- Tom - Roadmap beyond 3.5 and support
- Jonathan - email Email in other ideas
