David Wilcox joined us to review current communication activities and to discuss possible ways the sub-group can assist with ongoing outreach and engagement. David held a webinar on Fedora 6, which reached capacity and had good participation, and was able to make use of LYRASIS' robust infrastructure for hosting webinars. In addition, he has been providing Fedora 6 sprint/code development updates via short 5-7 minute videos with tech team members, and through email updates. David continues to provide updates through the Fedora newsletter, as well as adding content to the LYRASIS newsletter. David has consulted with the LYRASIS graphic designer and has some slide designs for use in presentations about Fedora. David is also hoping to add some Fedora-related topics to the LYRASIS community meetings to increase engagement.

Goal of keeping communication steady. Jon shared an idea to do community testimonials by tech folks not on the development team. This could start with the Fedora 6 pilot institutions.

Survey on training had low response - will have David send out again and in context of providing information about upcoming training/education opportunities for Fedora.

Other things for sub-group to be thinking about: What is next after Fedora 6 - migration and adoption. We need to be thinking about a 6-8 month timeline, and what information people will need. Are there documentation needs, webinars on specific topics, presentations at events, and who to reach out to, that will help with adoption of Fedora 6?

David also encouraged the sub-group to think at a strategic level and to let him know how he can enact the tactical work from ideas in our sub-group.

Next steps:

  • We will review our sub-group purpose, to better merge the two statements (our subgroup used to be two separate subgroups, so we'd like to better integrate our purposes). "Support a vibrant, diverse, and inclusive community of GLAM professionals committed to the adoption, development, and maintenance of Fedora. Support and grow the community by articulating clear identity that is nurtured through effective communication and outreach."
  • We will revisit our existing deliverables and evaluate what we should have as our next deliverables in the strategy template based on the production position, strategy updates, and in light of changes organizationally with Duraspace joining LYRASIS.
  • David Wilcox to send out training survey with 1 week deadline of responses in January, along with information about training opportunities.
  • David Wilcox to reach out to LYRASIS communication team about attending upcoming sub-group meeting
  • Este Pope to get meetings on calendar
