MESSAGE FROM THE CEO

OR2017 I wish you safe travels if you are preparing, as I am, to attend Open Repositories 2017 in 2017 in Brisbane, Australia. I'll see you there!It looks like an exciting program with plenty of time built-in to catch up with DuraSpace friends who will be participating: Erin Tripp, David Wilcox, Andrew Woods, Mike Conlon, and Graham Triggs—Please be sure to say hello!  If you are still making plans to attend the last day to register for OR2017 is June 21.

Reception at OR2017 DuraSpace is a proud supporting organization of OR2017. Please join us at open reception hosted by DuraSpace on Wednesday, June 28 from 6:00 PM - 7:30 PM at the Stock Exchange Hotel located at 131 Edward Street in Brisbane.

Thank you to renewing members of DuraSpace, and a warm welcome to new members (Val, please add).members. We very much appreciate those members who have elected to upgrade their memberships in support of our open source projects. We have raised 62% of our 2017 fundraising goal so far in this year's campaign with 100 unique members.

DSpace-CRIS Web Seminar Tomorrow we are offering a web seminar beginning at 11:30 AM EDT in collaboration with our friends at 4Science, "DSpace-CRIS: How it works and how to leverage it". Be sure to tune to learn more DSpace-CRIS which allows creation and management of any kind of entity–researchers, organizations, projects–and the relationships among those entities. new Expect to learn more about DSpace 7 UI will be highlighted at OR2017 in Brisbane, Australia next month. An update on the DSpace 7 Project (Angular UI and REST API) will be presented, providing the latest status of the work. A half-day workshop aimed at familiarizing developers with DSpace 7 Angular UI will be presented on June 27, providing updates, next steps, and information about how others can contribute. In addition, during workshop day, developers will have the opportunity to attend a DSpace Angular UI workshop to learn more about enhancing and customizing the upcoming UI. Here is a recent update presented by Wouter Janssens, Atmire, at the recent UK and Ireland DSpace User Group Meeting

There's still time to to propose lightning talks and breakout sessions for the North American DSpace User Meeting hosted by Georgetown University Library Aug 22-23. More information here.

The DSpace Anwendertreffen 2017 (formally known as German DSpace User Group Meeting) will take place at Stuttgart University Library on September 21, 2017 hosted by Stuttgart University Library, Fraunhofer IRB and The Library Code.  This informal information exchange will be organized in "Round table" discussion focused on specific topics. The deadline for topic proposals is June 21. More information here.

Fedora

A full-day workshop, Using and Extending Fedora, will be offered at OR2017 on June 27. Using pre-configured virtual machines, participants will learn how to create and manage content in Fedora in accordance with linked data best practices, how to search and run SPARQL queries against content in Fedora using the included Solr index and triplestore, and how to install and interact with API-X extensions. Find out what will be covered in the Fedora and Samvera (formerly Hydra) Camp curriculum–now availableThe Camp will Experienced trainers and Fedora gurus are on the road again offering two more Fedora Camps this year. The first is a combined Fedora and Hydra Camp to be held at Oxford University, Sept 4 - 8, 2017. Registration is available here with an early bird discount until July 10.  The camp will be hosted by Oxford University Oxford, UK and is supported by Jisc.

Registration is also available for Fedora Camp Texas, is co-hosted by Texas Digital Library and the University of Texas Libraries and will take place in Austin , Austin, October 16-18, 2017.  Registration is available here and local Local accommodations are available at a reduced rate–early bird discounts until Aug. 14.

The first-ever community-organized VIVO Conference is set to take place at Weill Cornell Medicine in NYC, August 2-4. This year keynotes, invited speakers, workshops, posters, demos, receptions, and conversation with the people creating and implementing VIVO and VIVO related tools across the world.

VIVO Project Director Mike Conlon who is also a Member of the DuraSpace Board of Directors and an Emeritus Faculty member of the University of Florida, is the author of a new monthly column aimed at providing in-depth information on topics related to VIVO. The May article entitled, "Who Should Have a Profile" lays out a variety of use cases for why an institution might encourage faculty members to maintain a discoverable profile.
