Reflection on Virtual Blacklight Summit in 8-10 November
- Main site: bit.ly/blacklight2021, Community notes
- Community: Depending on day, between 30 and 60? participants (don't have official number right now).
- Conversations around plugins, contributions and PRs, who is a committer, upgrading, how to improve developer experience, how to continue discussion around overall directions
- Examples of Blacklight use outside the library space or with non-MARC data
- Blacklight 7 in a transitional space from older partial-based customization and newer ViewComponent approach (expectation Blacklight 8 will use the latter alone)
- Expecting some monthly committer/community call for better planning
- Community: Depending on day, between 30 and 60? participants (don't have official number right now).

- Didn't demo to user reps as that meeting got moved up to Wednesday
- Doing demo for D&A team today
- Have found some inconsistency in the structure of the data returned by id.loc.gov resulting in things showing or not if reloaded. It turns out that the data itself seems consistent so have been able to work around this. Will email Kevin to ask what might be going on
- Tim has been working on code cleanup and making the layout consistent; and also using exclusion information from YAML config
- Jason notes that as this moves toward production we'll have to think about who owns the exclusions file and how that will be maintained
- 2021-11-12
- Tim has been busy!. Worked on creating branch within D&A and moving our code and reconciling with other changes, some work with Huda to fix counts which was a problem with the search fields, also fixed links (Meeting with user reps after this call)
- Huda: Did slack Kevin about id.loc.gov but haven't heard back.
- Also worked on updating exclusion mechanism to rely on index heading alone (can explain why this was different before)
- 19
- Expecting user reps feedback by end of November, Tim is keeping branch up to date with other changes happening as part of D&A, also still doing some more cleanup
- Had to solve some issues with access controls to use wikipedia data, Huda will check whether JSONP is the best approach
- BANG! (Bibliographic Aspects Newly GUI'd)
- Jamboard link
- Expect to include Works. Need to do something beyond what we already have live from the OCLC concordance data.
- DAG Calls
- 2021-11-19 - no updates, think about discovery and archives next year05 - Contacted Mark Matienzo and they commented that the "Lighting the Way Handbook" was just about to be published https://library.stanford.edu/blogs/stanford-libraries-blog/2021/11/announcing-lighting-way-handbook
Linked-Data Authority Support (WP2)
- Qa Sinopia Collaboration – Support and evolve QA+cache instance for use with Sinopia
- 2021-11-1219
- Update on PCC in ShareVDE. Triple store is populated. Context for Institutional data has many questions and incompatible issues. Context for PCC data looks close enough to be usable. Steven can say more about this. Dave is ready to proceed with PCC context. He expects the index for that to be done early next week. Then the QA config will be added. Then Sinopia config updated.
- See Steven's green, yellow, red marking on https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1rPvEoP9iYNkxJ0eWC8gXe3ci7e6mhW0da59xkGhadi0/edit#gid=502967565
- Steven will follow up with SVDE about the red lines
- OCLC naming alignment is complete. 3 subauths were added to QA for the cache (i.e. form, period, topic). Steven updated the labels to do the alignment in the Sinopia configuration. Ref: Issue #2125 expected changes, PR #3353 - merged yesterdayOCLC naming alignment is ready to go pending approval of proposed changes by Nancy and Steven
- Steven did some work, Nancy approved Steven will do PR for the changes

- 2021-11-1219- Working on the documentation rewrite. Mostly worked on the containerization documentation since Stanford is ready to test as early as next week. Overview of the architecture and flow are being organized in Entity Metadata Management Architecture
- 2021-11-12
- Lynette continuing to work on refining the documentation. There are 2 scripts and I am able to successfully run the first script. Associated resources (e.g. S3, EFS mount, etc.) are all created. All associated documentation for the first script is complete. The rest should go smoothly since it is a very similar process to the first. Targeting to have it done by early next week to be able to pass it off to Stanford for testing.
- Greg working on templates for associated resources, now to do instructions
- Targetting sending off to Stanford early next week, like "the first release"
- Documentation is complete and has been tested locally by Huda and will be tested by a dev at Stanford. We made many refinements based on Huda's questions and feedback. We encouraged Stanford to connect with Greg and Lynette in slack when they start working on their deploy. We will update the docs further based on their questions and feedback. Sinopia Issue #326 requests testing of the deploy process.
- Issues are being opened when remaining work is identified. Next step for qa_server_container is to add a template to redeploy with a new image.
- In next meeting discuss plans for work to containerize cache based on what we have learned in this work

- 2021-11-05 - Retrospective for 2 week sprint today, some discussion around expected UI. Expect to engage in new sprint which will stand up new FOLIO instance for this work19 - no updates, expect metadata mgmt update to FOLIO community in December
- OCLC Linked Data / Entities Advisory Group
- 2021-11-05 Lynette involved in meeting with John Chapman to discuss integration. "meeting with OCLC to look at integrations of Sinopia/QA with their entity backbone via their new API platform" Meeting will include most of the Sinopia team. Not clear who will attend on the OCLC side.19 Moved away from Wikibase, could mean they reuse properties (at least rdf:type, rdfs:label, etc.) There will be a subscription for accessing the editor, and APIs. Not part of the cataloger subscription, but expect news soon(?) about going live and pricing models. LOD will be published/dereferenceable . Asked how they would justify the extra cost... they believe there’s a value for libraries to contribute data so that it’s shared. There's another round of testing.
- ISNI - made a soft launch of LOD this week. Shhh... they are providing data dumps now, dereferenceable LOD sometime in 2022. https://isni.org/page/linked-data/
- PCC
- 2021-10-27 Definitions and non-RDA examples in MARC examples continued to shift, but should be able to finalize the spreadsheet that generates the RDF today.
- 2021-11-0419 - Nothing new to report.
- Authorities in FOLIO
- 2021-11-04 Laura, Julia, Jenn and Steven met this week to discuss getting URIs in our MARC records. We're going to try to abide by the same decisions reflected in OCLC's export options for URIs. Because every imaginable process for getting URIs relies on string matching we're meeting again next week to define scope and matching algorithms so that we're not adding a bunch of bad URIs.
- 2021-11-19 Julia walked group through what deletes would take in the current plan, it would be challenging to do this using a combination of Blacklight, Connexion, and FOLIO. Jenn and Nick suggested thinking about FOLIO authorities app (to keep us in FOLIO for search, copying, and editing in BIBs), timeline for EBSCO work on authorities app is ingest/search in Lotus (April)
