The entity of interest here is the AwardedDegree (dark blue in the center of the figure). The AwardedDegree is a relationship between a Person and an AcademicDegree. The AcademicDegree can be considered "abstract." The AwardedDegree is concrete – a person received the degree from a university at a particular time. VIVO provides a controlled vocabulary of AcademicDegrees. Note that the label for the degree is on the AcademicDegree.
The AwardedDegree has an associated EducationalProcess, which contains attributes of the AwardedDegree. The EducationalProcess has a DateTimeInterval. See DateTimeValue and DateTimeInterval Models for detail.
