Questions for the Digital Archivists

During a UI design meeting today a group of Stanford developers, project managers and UI designers had a number of questions about the Hypatia application.  It would be great to get the Digital Archivists to provide their answers to the following questions:

  • what are the hierarchies you want to support in the application and how would you like to see these represented in Hypatia? Please use real world examples. Draw us some pictures please and let us know what we should call them.
  • what types of objects are there and what datastreams do we have for each one?  Can you give us real world examples for each of these things?  Please start with the file level as the developers and UI designers would like to start there.  Are the following Hypatia objects?  Are there any missing from the list below or should they be called something else? What data streams are likely to accompany each of these as we imagine that there are differences between them.
    • repository?
    • collection?
    • series?
    • sub-series?
    • folder?
    • disk image?
    • file?
  • Wiki Markup
draw or sketch out a view for the file. Need this next Wednesday for Jennifer Vine.  I'll post a very rough example that I'm working on at \[ \] as a template.
  • need an edit view for each of these objects but this is less important and can be added later.
  •
  • Simon: (from Hypatia call) - use case scenarios, can we sketch out a few examples to illustrate how/why use may differ (eg is this between types of user, between different types of collections etc )
